I get recommendations from friends whose taste I trust, but I also like finding new books from recommendations on blogs and radio shows. NPR seldom disappoints when recommending a good book.
Here's a list of some of the best books that I've read within the last year:
How do you choose what book to read next? And by the way... do you have any great recommendations for me?
I haven't read any of those, although Gone Girl, The Night Circus, and The Middlesteins are all on my list. Geek Love looks good, too. I also base my reading on the recommendations of other, so I'm going to move all of these farther up the list. Thanks! :)
ReplyDeleteI hope you like them! I tend to like dark books :)
ReplyDeleteI loved loved loved Tha Night Circus. Amazing!!!!
ReplyDeleteThat circus was an amazing character in and of itself...
DeleteHi, Kate! Just letting you know I've accepted the Liebster award over at my blog. www.heidimannan.blogspot.com
ReplyDeleteI haven't read any of those books on your list! I usually get my recommendations from fellow bloggers or friends. But sometimes I will go searching a book on Amazon and read it to see if it's any good. I'm known to buy books and not have time to read them right away! :)
ReplyDeleteI know what you mean. I have a stack of books waiting to be read, not to mention the digital stack on my Kindle that I've purchased but haven't read yet :)
Deleteoh I haven't read any of those books. I think you are right. Though I am a voracious reader, I still have sooo many books to go, I doubt if I will finish reading all of them in this lifetime!
ReplyDeleteI have a non-fiction book to recommend -- "Quiet: the power of introverts in a world that can't stop talking." by Susan Cain. I learned so much about my sons, my ex-husband, my friends. And you have given me an idea. I will use this for my "S" letter instead of something else. Thank you!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the recommendation! I've actually heard that this is a fascinating book. I'll move it up higher on my TBR :)
DeleteI get my books/recommendations from book newsletters and Goodreads and friends, etc. I loved GONE GIRL and I've got IVAN on my TBR list.
ReplyDeleteSome recent favorites of mine - THE STORYTELLER by Picoult (reminded me of her older novels), A WEEK IN WINTER by Binchy (a Maeve Binchy books is like comfort food!) and ME BEFORE YOU by JoJo Moye (absolutely loved it!)
Right now I'm reading WOOL by Hugh Howey and so enjoying it - reminds me of a sci fi kind of Stephen King. :)
I just finished WOOL a month or so ago. I was only disappointed that it wasn't longer.
DeleteBeautiful Ruins just went on my 'to read' list and I just finished Bossypants. Have you read 'Secret Daughter' by Shilpi Somaya Gowda? It's a great story!
ReplyDeleteI haven't read that one. I'll have to look it up :)
DeleteBeen reading a series by Jeri Westerton she writes what she calls "Noir Medieval"

If you can handle dark stuff, try "A Fine Balance" by Rohinton Mistry. I found it really uplifting.
