K is for Kindle
I'm not sure who's more in love with my Kindle, me or my husband. No, it isn't because he likes to borrow it. It's because over the years, our house has been overrun with books. Really. It's like a book infestation. I'm not positive, but they might be breeding at night...
Last year we redecorated our study and added two extra floor-to-ceiling bookcases thinking that finally our days of stacks of books overflowing on every surface were over. I bet I don't need to tell you how wrong we were. Just now, I counted over fifty homeless books stacked throughout the house.
Yet I can't say I'm sorry. Even though I love the 80-some-odd books on my Kindle, I still love my real books a little bit more (Don't tell my babies that I have a favorite). I love the feel of their covers; the heft in my hand; the swish of a page turning beneath my fingers.
Don't get me wrong. I'm one hundred percent sold on digital readers. I love that I can slip it into my purse and have a whole bookshelf at my fingertips, but no one is ever going to get me to give up my real books.
How about you?
I don't have a problem with ebooks/ereaders, but I love my bookshelves. The books that live on the shelves are there because I loved them or really liked them. Of course, I also have a few stacks of books waiting to be read...plus a stack of library books... :)
ReplyDeleteThere are a number of e-books that I've purchased that I really want to buy a hard copy of.
Deletei hope books never go away--i don't have a kindle but would not be against purchasing one :)
ReplyDeleteI'm sure you'd love it. There's definitely value in both.
DeleteI could never give up my books!
ReplyDeleteNeither could I :)
DeleteI'm still acclimating to ebooks, but I definitely see the value in both. But, like you, I still prefer paper over digital. :)
ReplyDeleteI'm with you, Kate. I love the fact that I can carry so many different books around with me on my kindle, but still delight in holding a real book - particularly old ones from a second-hand book shop. The most important thing is that we love to read - the medium doesn't really matter
ReplyDeleteGood point! It is really the love of books (no matter the form) that counts.
DeleteI would love to get an e-reader one of these days, would be useful for traveling. But I love love love my "real" books. Even though they are also expanding beyond our shelves I still enjoy them. Plus with a toddler in the house we can't not have real books.
ReplyDeleteLike you, I ADORE my Kindle! But I still buy paperbacks... I could never give up on them. My husband also loves it as when he switches off the lights to go to sleep at night, I can just flick on the little light switch on my Kindle cover and carry on reading into the night, without bothering him at the same time!

I have the Kindle app on my iPad, but it is quite cumbersome and so I am looking into a Kindle.
ReplyDeleteI just don't know which one to get. I love my paper books, but digital books are so convenient.
Mine is just one of the inexpensive ones, but I love it because it's easy to read and so light weight.
DeleteI actually don't like my kindle because .......it's black and white :( . I do prefer turning pages rather than pushing a button
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh I love it! Do you check out books from your library? It's the best part! I download like five a week sometimes. But this Christmas, I got the newer flashy one and it's not as good. It's heavier and the screen is too glossy. Stick with the cheaper one!
ReplyDeleteI really should check them out, but I ALWAYS buy them. I've got a thing about wanting to support the authors (although I do often buy them when they're on sale).
DeleteI recently discovered Kindle and love the economy of purchasing books with it, especially if it's not a topnotch novel. However, I love my books, the smell, the feel, the pages.
ReplyDeleteYes, I do love the price difference. I'm hooked on the Kindle Daily deal.
DeleteI'm a die-hard paperback girl, BUT I do have a Kindle (which I'm really enjoying)
