E is for Elepahnt
So this probably sounds crazy, but I have a little dream that some day I'll own an elephant. And not just any elephant, mind you, a mini elephant (which only seems preposterous because no such thing exists). As a girl I always dreamed of having a unicorn, so it only makes sense that as an adult I'd continue my desire to own a completely fictional creature.
I can already see it now. Mr. Snuffles (as he'll probably be named) will be curled up at my feet, snoring sweetly through his tiny trunk. I'll use him for an ottoman, propping my feet on his thick skin, which will look like a tiny desert of cracked sand, a miniature landscape of gray. When he's happy, he'll trumpet in his sleep. The high pitched bugle will send the dogs running for cover in some other corner of the house. And on sunny days we'll walk to the market for peanuts and apples, stopping to sit on the curb in the shade, just me and Mr. Snuffles.
Do you have a dream pet? Or am I just bonkers?
You're not bonkers. ☺
ReplyDeleteI've always wanted a pig for a pet. :)
When I was a kid I wanted a pot bellied pig (I guess I still kind of want one).
Deletewhat a great idea for a children's series--love your imagination!
ReplyDeleteI was thinking it could make a fun picture book!
DeleteI always wanted a Zorse, the combo animal of zebra and horse. So if you are bonkers I must be too.
ReplyDeleteNow I want a Zorse!!!!!!
DeleteElephants are so cute. Have you seen BBC's Africa? There's some great elephant footage. My granny had a thing for them and I inherited some of her elephant trinkets. I did get to ride one thru the jungles of Thailand when I was there--so I have a great pic of me on one with a parasol. ;)
ReplyDeleteI bet that's a FANTASTIC photo! What a cool experience. I'll have to check out the BBC special.
DeleteNice post. Made me smile! Love the image of you with your small elephant. :) These are the things from which stories are made.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Margo! Isn't it fun to see the way stories can pop into our lives?
DeleteElephants are so cool. I had a really neat experience with one in Japan once. :) I think this would be a great picture book!
ReplyDeleteThanks Kimberly! Now I'm seriously considering trying to turn this into a picture book. I'll have to play around with it.
DeleteElephants are one of my favorite animals! Love this post!
ReplyDeleteI want a horse, always have and probably always will.
ReplyDeleteMe too! Ever since I was a little girl. If my 10-year-old self knew that I didn't have a horse yet, she'd disown me.
DeleteI also love elephants! We have several lurking about the house. :)
ReplyDeleteHappy A-Z'ing - congrats on almost finishing the first week!

I would like a pet dragon if anything's possible. :-)
ReplyDeleteI hope your pet dragon can be trained not to breath fire in the house! Would it be kind of like potty training a dog?
DeleteHow charming! And such a nice graphic to go with it.
ReplyDeleteI have three cats, and my imaginary pets are the ghosts of all the cats I've owned who are no longer with me.
Happy A to Z! http://lillian888.wordpress.com
That's so sweet! I really like the image of all your ghost cats sleeping curled up on your bed at night.
DeleteElephants are amazing, I rode one once when I was a kid at the zoo when they use to do that. Their hair is very itchy on your legs if you aren't wearing pants.
ReplyDeleteGreat post, I am following from blogging A to Z. I just added you on GFC.

I'd love to ride an elephant. I feel like I have a hidden memory of riding one as a child, but I'm not sure if I made this up.
DeleteYou're not bonkers! Though I rode an elephant once... not very comfortable and whew - the smell!
ReplyDeleteI've always wanted a pet hippo, but I'll stick with my five stuffed hippos. :)
Oh yes! A hippo would be a cute pet (but definitely a stinky one too).
DeleteWhat a cute pet idea! And who knows, maybe you'll find it yet ;) I wouldn't mind having a pet dragon-a mini one. Oh, and one that doesn't spit fire.
ReplyDeleteI'm sure you'll be able to teach your dragon not to spit fire. It will be very well behaved.
DeleteA mini elephant would be a great foot warmer!! I think I would love to have a mini lion. Soft, furry and a wonderful purr!
